Term 1 recounts: The boy in striped pyjamas book cover analysis, the movie and the bonus video clip. We also had a listening comprehension regarding cheese omelette and rachel edelmen. We also has an oral test with a very interesting theme:Us being a promoter and presenting infront of the whole class. Term one had started of well for me. How about you, fellow 1/3ians? )
My personal recount was the cereal oral project. It was a fun experience and I hope I will have the chance to try this oral format again. AND WATCHING BISP. THAT ROCKED.
Term one was very interesting because we did things that were different from our primary stuff. the most interesting thing we did was the presentation and watching BISP. The thing i enjoyed most was watching BISP and also the cereal presentation for CAs.
Term one was really interesting! The English Syllabus is very very different as compared to the Primary School English Syllabus. In Secondary School. it’s more about presenting, visual and not so much of written work like in Primary school. Miss Teo introduces us to various different books which are funny and enjoyable. The Oral Examination here is also very different and interesting. Unlike Primary school where we had a fixed passage and picture, we had more freedom in what we could do for Oral. We also did alot of reflecting. Miss Teo’s an awesome teacher to start the year off with ~ ^__^
my personal recount of the english lessons in term one: the book 'the boy in striped pyjamas' was really interesting. The story was really captivating. The movie was awesome! The bonus features showed me a lot of what the director/writer/actresses/actors had to do just to relate with the characters in the book and to act them out.I would want to watch this movie again.I had fun doing the oral presentation. It was different from all the other oral examination i had as this time it was promoting something and not just reading passages and describing pictures like we did in primary school. In total english lessons in term one was fun and interesting.I would look forward to more of these lessons for the rest of the year.(: posted by:leong wai ying
During term 1, I learnt to use Feldman’s technique: Describe, Interpret, Analyze and Evaluate which i remembered as A DIE. I enjoyed the group presentations and I love TBISP! I prefer the book to the movie.
in term 1, i had an enjoyable experience on learning about the nazis and world war II and learning new words like gastepo, etc. which made me understand the book that we did ” the boy in the striped pajamas” beter and understand the movie better too. i enjoyed learning about the past and how some people felt towards it and how some people were tortured during that era. the oral presentation we did was very fun and we got to learn more about our group and share a bond with each other. we learnt also how to become successful sales people for a day and got to rate each other on how well we did. i hope to do more of these activites in the future.
During this few months, I have learnt to use the feldman’s technique which is Describe, Interpret, Analyze and Evaluate. We also did a oral Presentation which helped me build up my confidence. I love The Boy In Striped Pajamas. It was truly a sad story. Now I know how the Jewish people suffered and being tortured by the Nazi soldiers. After all, I felt great!
This term english lessons is quite interesting, we get to watch TBISP movie. It is a very nice movie. The book and the movie is abit different. We did a lot of reflections and meanings of the words like Genocide, death train and Death camps. We have oral presentations like for my group is Instant coffee, then we also have bonus round which involve group work.I passed my letter writting for CA1, YEAH! I finished my write up for term 1.
The very first time i saw MissTeo,i thought she looked kind and caring and would be a GREAT teacher. All her lessons were fun and interesting easily understandable.i feel that she is a very open and understanding teacher that does not talk all about work and things like that only. She also let us watch the show “The Boy In Striped Pyjamas”.It was so touching that i wanted to cry.She wanted us to watch that show for more understanding on the book that we were reading. On the whole,i feel that Miss Teo is one of my favourite teachers among all my other secondary one teachers.
This term,we learnt more about letter writing for english, turns out it is totally different from primary school. We also learnt about the Feldman’s technique (DIAE), we wrote a script on it (analysing products) my group did on soft drinks. My also used it for the front cover of the book the boy in striped pyjamas.I liked watching the movie of the boy in striped pajamas. We compared the differences after that.
I have enjoyed this term. During this term, you have taught us how english relates to all our other subjects like art. We learn that english can be learnt even if it is Geography, Science, and other subjects. English is important as we need to know this subject in order to understand the other subjects. We have also studied books like ‘The Boy in Striped Pyjamas’. The story was very interesting, but the ending was depressing. Through the book, we understand what were jews and how the Germans treated them in the past. The Germans at that time were unfeeling and ignored the facts if it did not concern their family members. you have also showed us the show of that book. The ending was unsettling and made the people who watched it difficult to forget the story. It made me realise that English was everywhere in Singaporeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Overall, I liked the reading session in the library the most, even if we had gone just once. ^^ .
Hey;D this term has been BIZARRE!!! I have learnt something about art that i never heard about like for example: cool colours, warm colours..they blend in well!!! Anyways there were presentations during this terms and i can say it went quite well;D i learnt about the jews and the germans…they are evil and innocent people..oh and the most interesting part is the movie and book: The Boy In Stripped Pyjamas!!!!!!! The movie was awesome! In a way it is scary but not GORY but sad kind of scary…i still wonder how they got those OTHER people in the concentrated camp….like it is not possible that there are so thin people in this world!!Anyways the movie was A.W.E.S.O.M.E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ENGLISH WAS FUN ;D;D;D;D oh..not forgeting something i did very wronng..u know the library session..yeah..i borrowed a book, hoping to start reading it BUT few weeks passed and the book was not touched….i renewed it,hoping to contrinue reading…BUT it sover…my book is almost 3 weeks dew!!!!!!! I give up on books…EXCLUDING THE TWILIGHT book thing
Hi!!! In term 1, we read the book ‘The Boy in Stripped Pajamas’. I think bruno died a very harsh death and i do not think he deserves it. This makes me think of the phrase”curiosity kills the cat” . Bruno’s curiosity made Bruno wonder what was really inside the camp.
The first time i saw Miss Teo, she looked like a understanding and warm teacher and i was right ! All the english lessons she conducted were fun and interesting especially the oral we were tested on and also the book we read which was called ‘The Boy In Striped Pyjamas’ by John Boyne. The movie was also very touching.
Overall, i feel that english is very fun and we should have more of these kinds of activities in class
We read and watched “The Boy in Striped Pyjamas”. We also learnt how to write an informal letter. We learnt a lot other things like how to think quickly and make a story in a few minutes. We also had a oral presentation that I felt was very fun but it was also very scary to speak in front of the class.
Hello,Victoria lim here.In the past ten weeks,I have learnt that the cover of books tells us lots of things, for example:where and when the story takes place and more even bffore you read the book.Well, that is all I have to say, bye.
During term 1, I was abit afraid as didnt really know my friends well except for some. Rachel Yong was my best friend since P3 and I was realy happy she was in the same class as me. Luckily there was someone i could talk to. During the orientation week, I had new friends. They are really nice except for some that are you know ……………… I should not say. I am going to end here and i will write more when i have time………:P loves thailand and dancing <3
We read the book called boy in striped pyjamas. after that we did the presentation on the cereal. It was interesting. Then, we watched the movie called Boy In Striped Pyjamas. Overall we practiced teamwork mostly.
Term 1 was indeeed eventful, fruiful and it was a wonderful learning experience. Miss Teo is my current English Subject Teacher. She allows us to express our thoughts and feelings through reflections and exercises. She has also allowed us to watch a movie based on a novel we are reading on titled “The Boy In Striped Pajamas” by the author, John Boyle. The movie and the novel has educated me and i did not know anything about the holocaust at all, i did not even know what it meant but she asked us to get into groups and do a slide presentation on words that she has given us. Also, during the mid of the month of February, we had to prepare and pretend to be a “sales promoter” for a product. I was doing HL Milk and that was round 1. There was also round 2 where we had to choose a member from our group to do a comparison among the four products, which were, Farmhouse, HL, Meiji and Daisy. Our winning product was Daisy milk. Thats about what we have been doing in Term1!

During this Ten weeks I learnt to intepret drawings and book covers and ETC. I also learnt more about te Nazi, swastika and others. “The Boy In Striped Pajamas” movie and the story told me a lot of things about the live of Jews, and I feel very sorry for them. They are very pitiful and I do not know why Hitler was so bad and why he killed them. I also learnt the Feldman’s technique, Interpret, Describe, Evaluate and Analyze.
I really like Miss Teo's way of teaching and the way she taught us to guess about what the plot of the story was by just looking at the book cover.I also enjoyed myself when we read the book and watched the movie the boy in striped pyjamas but the story had a sad ending when Bruno wore the striped pyjamas and entered the prison camp to explore what it was like in there but he died with the other prisoners. I have also learnt about how the Jews were treated unfairly by the Nazi soldiers and the racial discrimination of that era.

After 10 weeks of school, i have learnt plenty of things like how to promote well not just promote but promoting that item properly like you must catch the attention first and so on...=) I have read the book "The Boy in Striped Pajamas". I think it was one of the most interesting, spectacular, touching book i have ever read. I really think by reading then watching the movie would be quite interesting because you will see how the author express things in words and how the director shows what is happening in the story. We can also see the differences between the book and the movie but not a total difference. I am really looking forward to Term 2 and see whether it is as exciting as Term 1 or even more fun! =D
in term 1, we learnt about working in a team for the presentation and how to be good salespeople. we learnt how to work in a team. in term 1, we also learnt how to do letter writing and about the Boy In the Striped Pajamas. we learnt new vocab words and what happened during World War II when Hitler took charge. we learnt about how much the jews were hated and what happened in the extermination camps. i really enjoyed Term 1, and i hope term 2 would be great again:)
