Reflections for Term 3!

Hello!

It has been a great Term Three for me, I am really proud of all my little 1/3s. This term we did quite a lot of things. We focused on Factual Recounts and Reading. We had weekly Reading periods and all of you have kept up with the reading log. I have such a huge pile of activities now!

We did Newspaper Report structure and language features and practiced by translating a Chinese newspaper article into an English one. It was a good attempt on your part to attempt the translation and I hope it helps with your Chinese too!

We also learnt about Biography and Autobiography. We did research on a group of artists and shared our research with the class through powerpoint presentations and we also wrote a biography on the artist that you have chosen.

Following that we started on our Puppetry project. We did research on a person who has contributed much to the world - Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Rosa Parks, Marie Curie, Genghis Khan, Jim Henson and Hayao Miyazaki. We watched videos on these great people to gain better understanding of their lives. The class cooperated very well in choosing the Character for the project. We also did procedural writing -How to Make a _____ Puppet and watched videos on the different types of puppets there are - Rod, Sock, Marionettes (String), Wayang Kulit (Shadow) and even Water Puppets. We also asked our Vietnamese friends to explain to us what the Water Puppets are about and how they are like.

Then each group did research and wrote a script on the person they have chosen. The puppet performance could be in a variety of modes - Documentary, Interview, Talk Show and Narrative. The class decided that each group would create their own stage and puppets. We had one group who decided to do a live talk show.

Each member of the group had a role - Director, Dramaturg, Scriptwriter or Designer and each performed her role well. I love the puppets and the ingenious idea of creating curtains that could be pulled open! The groups learnt from each other yet each retained their own ideas about how they wanted their show to be. It took a lot of time and effort to plan, create and perform but it was worth it wasn't it? :)

I remember how people said that their arms hurt after the performance, from holding the puppets up too long. I saw how the voice over people try to lower their voices for male parts. I really enjoyed seeing how all the things that we have learnt over the past year come together in this project.

I feel really proud of all of you! :D

Thank you for all the hard work and gifts. Seeing your puppet performances was one of the best gifts for Teachers' Day.

We will tackle the end of year examinations next term and emerge victorious once again!
Let's advance with courage and joy! :)

  1. The PUPPETRY PROJECT WAS SUPER DUPER AWESOME!!!! Now i know how to make a rod puppet....thanks to hui ci for teaching me. Our group did on Genghis Khan...we had to make about 14 puppets..ya i noe we are crazy. We recorded about 2 times and we wasted the teacher time to help us to record. But anyway, our group did a wonderful job.
I learnt that we must cooperate together to finish the making of the puppets and especially when moving the puppets at the correct time together. We also learnt to split the work out to each other to complete it fast too.
OUr group can do better if we can work with each other without sometimes quarelling over a small matter.... YEAh....but our group had tried our best and we did quite a great job.
    Thats all for my reflection.

  2. Term 3 was exciting yet really really tiring for me. One, was because of my CCA I missed out on alot of important lessons and felt tired in class most of the times. But it was interesting to see others doing their puppetry projects because that sense of unity and teamwork is there and they really put in alot of effort which truly warms my heart.

I hope the next term, even though it'll be more tiring and more chaotic, I hope lessons will remain as fun as they have always been!

  3. MUAHAHAHA I am the first! Okay anyways heres my reflection for term3 :)

During Term 3 it was a struggle for me and my group because of the puppet video. It was very stressful for us as we did not know a thing and we had very little experience. Though, we still managed to pull through. My group did not really make up of the most compatible members. We had a lot of arguments, misunderstandings...mainly my point is that we could not work together. But, I do feel that all of us put in our utmost effort to help make this show happen. Term 3 was a bumpy ride and I hope term 4 will be less stressful though the EOYS are going to pressurize a lot :)

  4. Term Three Reflection

To me, Term Three is a rather bumpy yet fruitful one. Although my group did not do puppets for the puppetry project, we have observed the persistent attempts of other puppetry groups. The puppetry project, i must say, is very unique and special and it is in a sense, quite inspirational and useful, we learnt more about role models, inspirtational people we have not known of before and this educates us to be like these role models. I have learnt not only about the hardships they have encountered, but also captured the essence of the phrase by John Carmack "Focused, hard work is the real key to success." It can be better by cooperating and being determined to set things done, being focused that is. Like we should not drag the things that can be done today, we should not drag it for the next day, as the next day would only being put off to another day.

  5. Term 3 was fun. For the biography project I did a powerpoint presentation and biography on the artist Claude Monet. It was a lot of work but I did my best.My group did a puppetry performance on Hayao Miyazaki. The talkshow was about Hayao Miyazaki's movie Spirited Away, childhood and his career. It was really fun and I can't wait for it to be put onto youtube:)

  6. I think the puppet project was a really interesting experience because all of us in the group were inexperience in these type of things so we had to think and think on what to do(which was really really difficult.:S Overall I think it was okay.

  7. Wow...Not many did the reflections.
My reflections for term 3. It was not a smooth ride. We faced many difficulties as there were many arguments and misunderstandings but luckily we pulled through and completed the puppet project. Our sewing was terrible as none of us could sew properly. I ended up sewing the satin curtains using my 'secret weapon' which is the sewing machine. It wasn't easy with the machine as I didn't really knew how to operate that thing. I'll end here as I need to sleep soon. I hope Term 4 would be stress-free but I guess it's rather impossible with the end of year exams coming...

  8. Yay! I am the third one to write the reflection. My Term 3 was quite stressful on making the puppet. However the process of making the puppet is very fun. I learnt a lot of things on how to make the puppet from my classmate and the information we found online. We spend hours doing the puppet as we had never make a puppet before. I hope Term 4 would be more relaxing and good luck to everyone for their upcoming exam.

  9. Its too little too late to comment but since i'm here.
Term 3 was kinda BAD cuz the characters my grp had to make and the designs of the costumes and all requires alot of planning did i mention how we all sucked in the "art way". Okay maybe i'm in no way to say this cause in my CCA we learnt how to make puppets and all but the rest of my grp members don't know how to do and they don't seem too interested on hands-on stuff like making puppets anyway. :P
Besides, finding the correct and interesting part of Gandhi's life was also very difficult as the good bits were difficult to re-enact and the boring bits were, well, boring. Esp when you have to act out through puppets it can be really frustrating so my grp decided to do the live show. It was much easier and less stressful but it was not as interesting as a puppet show though.
We did not have any arguments but sometimes we don't really see eye to eye on some things but i guess thats inevitable right? :)
